Our next lovely woman from our Fabulous 40 project is….Dawn Atkinson!
Dawn is from Parrish, Florida, and is in Law Enforcement and a Realtor. She loves being a mother to two lovely, assertive daughters, Christina (25) and Elizabeth (21). She and her late husband have supported them and watched them grow into the independent, strong women they are today. She considers her two greatest titles to be MRS. and MOM and would describe herself as amazing, reliable, and a Supermom.
One of her most significant accomplishments has been supporting her two daughters as student-athletes. Her daughter, Christina, received a track scholarship to King University in Bristol, TN and now serves in the United States Navy. Her other daughter, Elizabeth, received a track scholarship to USF in Tampa, FL. Elizabeth is currently in her senior year and also competes in Figure Competitions. Dawn also volunteered heavily in her community alongside her late husband. They volunteered as coaches/mentors for girls' weightlifting teams and Track and Field teams, served in the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society, including the Spanish Exchange student program, and volunteered for Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, and so many more.
As a Law Enforcement Officer, Dawn gets the most satisfaction from helping those in the most need. Sometimes it may be guiding them through the law process, sometimes it is solving a theft case and locating items of sentimental value, and sometimes it may be providing services or direction that will help them in other ways. The days and nights are long, but it is well worth it to her. She additionally received the Distinguished Service Award from the Sheriff. She is also a successful Realtor, striving to guide clients through the process with the least amount of stress. She is continuing her training and specialty designations to assure that she can provide the best service with the utmost integrity at all times.
Dawn has several personal mottos that she stands by, including "Everything happens for a reason, though we may not know the outcome right away.", "Do the right thing.", "Be the best parent you can today; there are no do-overs.", and "Integrity happens when no one is watching." A quote that she lives by is, "Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness in people." -Roy T. Bennett. She believes that family is the most important thing. Family does not have to be blood, but it does have to be genuine and caring.
She would give her eighteen-year-old self some advice to follow her intuition and always set goals and strive for the stars. She would also tell herself never to let anyone tell her that she cannot do something and to always smile and love with all her heart. She would like her legacy to reflect the many lives that she may have touched and/or mentored. She wants to be remembered as a loving wife, an amazing mom, a reliable friend, and a successful worker. She wants people to remember her as always bringing laughter, hope, and happiness wherever she was.
Dawn wanted to be part of the Fab over 40 project because she always cherished all kinds of photographs. She likes to look at photos because they document people and moments for generations to come. She can look back at photos taken to see the smallest but most memorable moments. She recently gained the title of Widow, which she did not expect this early in life. The journey and transformation of the months before the Fab 40 Project have been unusual, and she felt that this project would help her focus on herself in a personal sense.
