Next on our blog is Matt Kezar. Matt is currently running for Palmetto City Commissioner!
Matt was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but Manatee County has been his heart since he was in the third grade. Matt graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management. Continuing his service to our country as an Army officer, he earned recognition as both a Platoon Leader and a Brigade Headquarters Executive Officer.
Remembering his dream to give back to his community, Matt returned to Manatee County. For the past 20 years, Matt has been working to develop and build affordable housing and commercial real estate, focusing on the county's quality growth. He has served as the Vice President at MBK Real Estate Services, Inc., Executive Vice President at Corvus International, a partner of The Bennett Group, and Principal of Blackrock Development Holdings. He is also proud to be a Broker-Associate at Ian Black Real Estate. Matt has honed a wide range of skills to perform on many different complex projects while working with the City of Palmetto and the Manatee County community.
For his entire childhood, his father served as Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, preparing Matt for a life of service. Caring for others is his first instinct and his primary purpose in life. Matt's most treasured experiences were his five years of teaching and volunteer coaching at Saint Stephen's Episcopal School. Building a team focusing on leadership and sportsmanship was another one of Matt's big dreams.
Matt has a definitive list of accomplishments including Chairman's Council of the Manatee County Economic Development Council, being one of the Gulf Coast Business Review's "Top 40, Under 40 Business Leaders", serving as a former board member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Manatee County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manatee County, Bradenton Yacht Club, and Our Daily Soup Kitchen, and is rated "Highly Qualified" by the Christian Family Coalition of Florida.
In 2011, Matt established the Father Kezar Opening Doors Foundation, recognizing a need in the community. The foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for dozens of students from diverse backgrounds for college-preparatory education. He is married with two teenage boys and two rescue dogs. They have been residents of the City of Palmetto for over ten years and look forward to the opportunity to work in service for this beautiful city.
